Original Movie Prop - Dolphin Tale - Rufus the Pelican Puppet. This is a Rufus the pelican puppet from the 2011 family film, Dolphin Tale, which is inspired by a true story. While multiple real life pelicans were used to play the pesky Rufus, this puppet was used for safety when it would be too dangerous to use the animal actors. This particular puppet can be screen matched in the Gag Reel on the DVD release, which shows an outtake of a shot from the film. Rufus is constructed from a variety of materials. The inner structure is made of metal that is covered in foam. The body has been covered in faux white feathers. His feet and beak pouch are soft latex, while the upper beak is a sturdy resin. Unfortunately the pelican no longer features wings (see photos). Rufus is cable controlled, and wires protrude from his rear, just above his legs. This puppet measures approximately 48" x 36" x 12" (122cm x 91cm x 31cm) and has some wear due to production use but remains in overall good condition.
